WORCESTER TELEGRAM & GAZETTE ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Shawn Brady hit Cy Butler for a 34-yard touchdown on the first play from scrimmage, but it was all downhill from there for New England in a rematch of last year's CIFL Atlantic Conference final as the Raiders shellacked the Surge, 62-20. It was the first defeat for the Surge (5-1), who are 0-4 all-time against Rochester. The Raiders (7-0) answered the opening score with three straight touchdowns to take a 20-6 lead. Eric Boatwright scored on a 1-yard run to cut the lead to 20-12, and Brady scored on an 11-yard scramble with under a minute to go in the half to cut the lead to 34-20. |

Raiders provide toughest test By Mike Besaw TELEGRAM & GAZETTE STAFF Everyone seems to have that someone or something that is a thorn in their side.
The Bruins can’t seem to beat the Canadiens, Charlie Brown still gets thrown for a loop by Lucy, and Superman can’t shake the effects of kryptonite.
For the New England Surge, that thorn comes in the presence of tonight’s opponent, the Rochester Raiders.
Both teams enter the contest undefeated, but the 5-0 Surge have never beaten the 6-0 Raiders.
The teams squared off three times in the 2007 season. Rochester won at home, 77-40. The next time they met, the Surge kept it close, but fell, 49-40, at the DCU Center. The last time the teams met was in the Atlantic Conference Championship, which the Raiders won, 80-45, at home, on their way to the CIFL title. |

Photograph courtesy of John O'BrienSnowden, Jones block field goal for winning TD By Jim Wilson TELEGRAM & GAZETTE STAFF WORCESTER— They say no lead is ever safe in arena football, and last night, the New England Surge proved that to be true.
New England scored 28 points in the fourth quarter, and Sir Snowden and Rashawn Jones blocked a field goal attempt that was recovered in the end zone by Jones for the winning touchdown as the Surge stunned Flint in a 49-48 win last night in front of 1,987 fans at the DCU Center.
“We’re always in the game, and this is arena football, so anything can happen at any time,” Surge wide receiver Jeremy Collins said. “No matter how much you’re up, it’s never safe. Things happen so fast in this game.” |
